About VisaUnlocks
VisaUnlocks is a free reference for visa requirements and visa unlocks — the often-overlooked rules where one country's visa or residence permit lets you enter a third country on easier terms.
Where our data comes from
Visa-requirement data (visa-free, visa on arrival, e-visa, eTA, visa required) derives from the open Passport Index dataset, a 199×199 matrix of entry rules maintained as an open-source project. We process it into passport profiles, route pages and rankings covering the world's top 100 destinations.
How the "unlock" rules are verified
Our 32 visa-unlock rules are hand-curated and individually verified against official government sources — immigration ministries, official e-visa portals, and consular guidance. Each rule page lists its exact conditions (validity, multiple-entry, "used at least once") and cites its source. The current base was web-verified on 2026-07-04. Entry rules change, so each page shows a "last verified" date and we re-check periodically.
Our methodology in one line
A passport's "power" score counts destinations reachable without arranging a visa in advance (visa-free + visa on arrival + eTA), out of 198 — the same approach used by major travel-freedom indices. e-Visa destinations are counted separately, since they still require an online application before travel.
Important disclaimer
VisaUnlocks provides reference information, not immigration or legal advice. Visa rules change frequently and can depend on your specific circumstances. Always confirm requirements with the official government source or embassy before booking travel. Where a destination has an official government portal, we link to it directly and recommend applying there rather than through third-party resellers.
