What countries can you visit with just a UK visa?
Updated 2026-08-27 · every rule verified against official government sources
A valid UK visa opens far more than Britain. It waives or simplifies the visa of 18 other countries — including the only rule of its kind in Europe: Ireland, visa-free for 90 days (enter the UK first). Plus Mexico and Peru for up to 180 days, Georgia, Albania and Serbia for 90, and Saudi Arabia on arrival. The complete list:
Why do countries do this? UK consular vetting is accepted as good enough — Ireland built a whole scheme on it (the British-Irish Visa Scheme), and Mexico, Georgia and Saudi Arabia wrote UK visas into their entry rules.

Latin America & the Caribbean

The fine print that actually matters
The 90-day Irish waiver works only if you enter the UK first on your UK short-stay visa, then travel onward to Ireland — flying straight into Dublin does not qualify.
Albania, Panama, Saudi Arabia and Egypt require at least one UK entry stamp — a fresh, never-used visa fails this test.
None of these rules accept the UK's electronic travel authorisation — you need an actual visa vignette in your passport.
And the rule that overrides everything: entry requirements change. Each rule on our UK visa unlocks page cites its official source with a "last verified" date — re-check it (or your airline's Timatic) before booking.
Frequently asked questions
Which countries can I enter with a UK visa?
A valid UK visa unlocks 18 countries, including Ireland (90 days, enter the UK first), Mexico (180 days), Peru (180), Georgia (90), Albania (90), Serbia (90), Saudi Arabia (visa on arrival, 90) and Türkiye (simplified e-visa). Conditions apply per country.
Can I visit Ireland with a UK visa?
Yes — up to 90 days under the Short Stay Visa Waiver, but you must enter the UK first on that visa and then travel onward to Ireland. Direct arrival in Ireland without a prior UK entry does not qualify.
How long can I stay in Mexico with a UK visa?
Up to 180 days visa-free with any valid UK visa; the officer at entry grants the final stay length.
Does a UK eTA or a UK residence permit count?
A UK eTA does not (it's not a visa). A UK residence permit is a different, partly better list — see UK residence permit unlocks.
